I am using homeseer (it's no 50% discount) and you can try if for free for a month. HSbuddy is a nice plug-in alternative til then (but it's got issues w starting up). With Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and Zigbee, the Amazon Echo (4th generation) is the best smart home hub for most people.

I can't speak to scenes as I don't use them, you can probably do some searching through the forum and find out. In addition, some are based on RS-232 which is limited in length and offers little surge protection.
